limpida marvelous pt.2
Project realised with N0A in the framework of Format Z33
Rainwater holds an untapped potential in most urban areas until today. While the urban infrastructure of the 'sponge city' that treats rainwater as a valuable resource for both irrigation and flood protection has been successful in China for more than a decade, rainwater in Europe's cities is merely being used to flush toilets. Other potential uses are still widely ignored.
LIMPIDA, MARVELOUS diverts rainwater that is being collected in a reservoir of Z33's basement and makes it available through a series of filters for the public to refresh.
Niveau Zéro Atelier thus suggests new rituals that incorporate our need for community, sharing and spirituality, while relying on a careful management of the given water resources.
With their installation, they position themselves at the intersections of the legal, social, technical and spiritual discourses around (the use of) water in an urban ecology: how do we (re connect urban citizens with their liquid environment? How do we move beyond the known hygienic perspective? How do we acknowledge that no return to any sort of purity is possible in an environment that we continuously pollute?
Here, the artists anticipates the rise of a spirituality capable of seizing technology to create new rituals around water.
Rituals that could help navigating the ambiguity between opportunity and disaster that arised from the failure of
modernity we are currently facing.
